Quilt University 101 (aka Tucker University) begins this week. We'll hold two sessions, each being the same content. Our first class is Wednesday, January 9 beginning at 10:30. We should end around 1:30 or so. Our second session will be held Saturday, January 12 beginning at noon. If you haven't signed up and wish to, please call or visit the shop today as we'll be preparing materials for you.
What does QU look like?We will be using a specific ruler from Deb Tucker each month. This month we will be using the Tucker Trimmer 1 and Quilter's Magic wand to create 4 units: half square triangles, quarter square triangles, and combination units. Once we have this done, those units can be combined into at least 31 different quilt blocks! Yes, you will decide what your finished quilt will look like. I have two samples in the classroom.
What tools do I need? Tucker Trimmer 1, Quilter's Magic Wand, and Technique Sheets. (Both rulers and laminated technique sheets are available for $29.00)You'll also need 4 fabrics: a focal, background, and 2 coordinating fabrics. We will have sets cut for you to purchase ($15.00 for 1 1/2 yds total fabric)
Basic Sewing Supplies to bring:
Sewing Machine with power cords
Thread
Machine needles
Snips or scissors for trimming
Seam ripper
Marking pencil
A small rotating cutting mat is helpful.
Best press or light starch is also helpful.
We have large cutting mats, some cutters, and 3 ironing stations. Plan to arrive 30 minutes early and set up your area so we can begin promptly. We're so excited to show you these processes and see what you create!
